Brendan Jugler

Colonial Football Officials
Brendan grew up in Danbury and, while
attending Western Connecticut State was
introduced to football officiating. He started
with the Western Board in 1970 under the
tutelage of Ed Mariano and Russ Hansen and
the mentorship of Jerry Doyon. Brendan later
transferred back to his home area and was
fortunate to be part of a crew with Hall of
Famers Tom O'Neill and Frank Krugel, and
Tony Ciccaglione.
He is a proud charter member of the
Colonial Football Officials Association which
was established in 1995. Brendan has been a
Vice President, President, a consistent
member of the Board of Directors and
presently serves as the high school assignor
for the Colonials.
Throughout his career, Brendan worked
several FCIAC Championships, ten WCC and
SWC Championships and numerous state
playoffs, including three State Finals.
Brendan is fortunate to have had a successful,
lengthy career, during which time he has
been a long serving member of the Board of
Directors, Vice President and President of the
State Board, received the inaugural Vin Reilly
Award as a member of the Colonial Board,
and was recognized by the National Football
Foundation for his contributions to high
school football officiating.
Off the gridiron, Brendan enjoyed a 34-year
career as a math teacher and guidance
counselor at Henry Abbott Technical High
School in Danbury. During his tenure in
education, he was the class advisor to the
Class of 1977 and he was selected Teacher of
the Year in 2007.
He also coached freshman basketball for
several years and coached the varsity
softball team for ten years. As Wolverines’
skipper Brendan led the team to league titles
in 2000 and 2001 and he was named the News
Times Area Softball Coach of the Year in
2000.
Brendan served in the US Army Reserve
from 1970-1976.
Additionally, Brendan continues to officiate
high school soccer, girls' basketball and
softball. He is a fixture in league playoffs and
a state tournament official in all sports. He
also enjoyed a 17-year career as a D-II and
D-III women's basketball official.
Brendan has been married to his wife Joyce
for 44 years and is the proud father of one
daughter, Tara.
